DE Wyatts!!

we’ve just returned to matt’s parents in VA from a long weekend in delaware visiting the DE Wyatts! (aka: matt’s grandparents and aunts/uncles/cousins! ☺) we had such a fun time!

it was the last weekend of the DE state fair, so we were able to enjoy its last couple of days. their state fair is sooooo nice. we were so used to the NC state fair–which is mainly elbow to elbow–until we met the DE state fair–where you can walk around freely and see everything you want to see…multiple times (which is great for a certain little boy that likes tractors, combines and gators!). grannie and pop pop also live about 2 miles (if that) away from the fair grounds, so that makes it really convenient.

friday afternoon we did things around the house while claire took a nap:

when claire woke up, we took off for the fair and straight to the little kid rides!! i can’t believe our kiddos are old enough to ride rides! they were so cute and excited about it. after each ride we’d ask them if they had fun, wyatt would say “yeah!!” and claire would say, “no, not fun!” with a little pout! so, you'd think that she would not want to go on another one. but as soon as we asked if they did want to go on another one, they would both clap their hands, jump up and down and say “yeah!!” …not sure which claire was confused about...she’d get on the next ride!?! ☺

daddy was the designated adult rider when needed! i was nauseous enough as it was, i knew no ride would help that!

wyatt's first roller coaster...too bad he's so short that you'll just have to take my word for it that he is actually sitting beside his daddy! (it was pretty funny seeing matt try to fit in this worm coaster! the operator had to tell him that he had to have his legs all the way in the ride! somehow he managed to get it in!)

that evening we met up with the rest of the fam at the fair for supper. then john, ashley, matt and i went to meet matt's uncle chris and aunt crystal at the demolition derby!! it’s funny to me how enjoyable the demo derby is!! it didn’t seem to last as long as in the past years and i think there were only 1 or 2 female drivers…usually it seems that there were enough for their own powder puff heat. probably too expensive these days for people to keep up a hobby where you fix up and decorate an old wrecked car, just to wreck it!! ☺

saturday the guys (matt, john, uncle chris, mel (matt’s cousin)) got up early and headed out to go "crabbin'." while they were out (and once we were up and ready) the kiddos, nana, papa and ashley headed back out to the fair to see some of the things we hadn’t seen the day before (animals, exhibits, etc.).

when we arrived back at grannie and pop pop’s, preparations for the big “crab, chicken and corn” (a few of the things the eastern shore is known for) late lunch were under way! the guys got back a hour or two after us with 2 bushels of crabs and started steaming them right away! everything was soooo good: crabs, fried chicken, corn on the cob, broccoli slaw, potato casserole, chips and homemade salsa, and an assortment of sweet treats.

either this must be one of pop pop's favorite meals or he was just really hungry–he has the whole table to himself...or is that his plate? (just fyi: not his plate, others eventually joined him at this table!)

it was a super fun visit…and as all super fun visits go…it flew by! Thank you so much Pop Pop and Grannie for your hospitality and for letting us stay with you!
